Excellence across all of AI. For all of Europe. With a human-centred focus.
CAIRNE (Confederation of Laboratories for Artificial Intelligence Research in Europe, formerly CLAIRE) is an international non-profit association created by the European AI community. It seeks to strengthen European excellence in AI research and innovation, with a strong focus on human-centred, trustworthy and responsible AI, and works to reduce Europe’s dependence on AI technology developed outside the region.
Its network brings together over 500 member groups and organisations across a Research Network and an Innovation Network, plus a self-organised Rising Researchers Network, and is supported by several national governments. CAIRNE promotes European AI through media and events, fosters cross-border collaboration and participates in EU Horizon calls to build the community.
Nearby Computing joins the CAIRNE Innovation Network to connect its work on AI-driven, agentic orchestration at the edge with the European AI research community.
